The Blomefield Family
The
grandest memorial stones in the Churchyard are 4 foot high brick-built
tombs of the 18th Century. The first commemorates the Blomefield
Family: Robert - Gentleman - who died 11th November 1730 aged 67 and
Esther, his wife died 19th July 1731 aged 57.
The Blomefield family was obviously of
some standing in the village, with Robert and Edward being Churchwardens
for some 20 years ending in 1748. By 1838 we find William
Blomefield living in J.J. Buxton's property at the east end of the Long
Row, either Yew Tree Farm or Long Row Farm.

The Beverley Family
Likewise the Beverley family also have an
impressive brick-built tomb. Michael, father and son were
Churchwardens form 1753-1772 and 1805-1815 respectively. There is
also an entry that reads "Paid Mr Beverley for Peal of Bells
£133.14s.0d" in 1788. A large sum of money for the time, and
what was the family's involvement? The Overseer's book records that
"on 20th September 1842 paid expenses incurred in apprehending John
Daines £2.7s.0d." so they were obviously a most trustworthy
family.

The Stannard Family
Not far away from these two grand memorial
stones is another striking tomb. There are 'adorned' crosses at
the head and foot of the tomb, belonging to the 19th Century.
Henry Stannard - Gentleman- died 1856 and his wife Sophia died in
1870. They had property in Diss Road in 1838, which was rented by
Henry Saunders. Where did the Stannard Family live?
