Still visible in All Saints' Tibenham are three
memorials (ledgers) on the floor of the chancel.
The first two are simple and just read RICHARD
HERNE 1668 and ROBERTUS HERNE 1720. The third reads "Sarah wife of
Clement of Earsham daughter of Robert Herne 1729 aged 76, and a good parent
Ann wife of John Buxton, Channonz Hall, child by Clement Gooch and Clement son
of John and Ann Buxton in infancy May 1721"
Many family documents are at Cambridge University
Library included with the "Buxton Papers". There is also a
magnificent map of the Buxton Estate dated 1640 in Norfolk Record Office,
Martinuea Lane, Norwich which includes a list of tennants and William Herne
leased the Windmill (probably sub-letting it to the Miller) and owned land on
the opposite side of the road (now called Mill Road!),
