Verbal History:

"In the 1970s there was a widow, Bertha Woods who lived at Walnut Tree Farm, Prestow Green Lane, Tibenham.  She was a 'leading light' in the W.I. and also raised funds for the British Legion during the war years.  She was also one of the 3 members of the Church congregation when we arrived, and in fact the Bible that is read every week is dedicated to her.  I remember her taking home-made butter and eggs to the markets in nearby Diss and Wymondham by the little old car she drove.  Since her death, the thatched house has been sold and refurbished and the attached barn has also been made into a lovely home.  I have an old church magazine with her marriage on Oct 6 1938, Walter Stanley Woods m. Bertha Elizabeth Smith.  The magazine continues:

"An interesting wedding took place in our own church on 6th October, when Miss Bertha Smith and Mr Walter Woods were married.  The bride has been very faithful and regular in her duties as a Sunday School Teacher for six years.  She has also assisted as organist at the Church as well as having taken in many other public activities in the village.  We wish these young people every happiness and prosperity in the years which lie before them."

I don't believe they had any children. Walter was 16 years older than Bertha"
