Peter Tufts was born in Tibenham in 1617.  His great-grandfather was Thomas Tufts of Gissing, Norfolk, born approximately 1505. Peter, Mary and Elizabeth Tufts all came to North America shortly after the arrival of the Pilgrim Fathers in 1620, and as such, the genealogy of this family has been widely researched by his descendants.

Research has been sponsored by Mr. of the USA into the origin of the Tufts, as Peter Tufts was one of the original colonists of Massachusetts, marrying in Charlestown, Mass in 1646.  Mr. Adams has written a book about the genealogies of Peter Tufts and other Norfolk Tufts emigrants, some of which emigrated to Canada, founding the city of Tuftsville, now renamed Modoc Jct, Ontario, and another settled in Manitoba.
